Getting a little too pluggy for your tastes? Well, the plugs are paying for my table and hotel at Comicpalooza so how about roll with it just this once and, if you are in the area, come out and see what promises to be a very cool comic/pop culture show.
Meeting Wil Wheaton at Emerald City Comicon was such a thrill that I thought the experience deserved it’s own comic. He’s such a kind and gracious dude. I highly suggest that you check out his various podcasts and books, especially the Memories of the Futurecast and the book what inspired it called [shockingly] Memories of the Future. If you ever wondered what it was like to actually grow up on the set of Star Trek: The Next Generation (especially during the highly questionable first season) this is a must-read.
It’s not a cheesy tell-all, but rather a sweet and hilarious look back and being a part of an amazing pop-culture phenomenon and not being old enough to fully appreciate it at the time. Wheaton looks back on Season 1 with equal parts nostalgia, humor and “WTF were we thinking”. No where else are you going to get this perspective on TNG and it’s truly fascinating. Do yourself a favor and pick it up.
holy shit his tshirt is amazing.
Seconding that. But is there only one of those? I can't imagine anyone else wearing it.
if you put on the shirt it changes to look like you.
It's the Infini-T! Scott, who makes the great comics Basic Instructions (http://basicinstructions.net/) made them for a limited time. Basically, you could send your picture and he would send you a t-shirt like that.
My comic worlds are colliding today!

Looks like an "Infinitee" created by Scott Meyer of Basic Instructions. He's not always taking orders for them, so you'll need to check the store periodically or keep an eye on his blog.
I can't tear my eyes away from it. It's so… meta…
You'd think he'd have an aversion to chest banded shirts.
If not, he should.
Other shirt, truly awesome.
Awesome comic. Whenever I start attending cons, Wil will be one of the first people I overstep my boundaries with.
Outstanding! It was a pleasure meeting you (and Wil!) at Emerald con.
Hi, Joel!
I'm Tarah, the redhead wearing the Edward shirt from Sunday 😉 It was so nice meeting you! My intern and marketing director have already started reading your comic; I had to let them borrow my Buffy and Firefly DVDs 😉
I played in Wil's delve on Saturday; if you want to read about it, go here: http://thecowgirlcoder.com/ That would be my blog; I'm posting a multipart about the delve.
I have only one thing to say about standing in line for Wil's autograph. I screamed in utter horror when I realized that I had forgotten my Wesley Crusher original figurine from the 80s. It would have been EPIC to have him sign it. Still, I got a DM screen signed by him. My group is SO JEALOUS of me 😀
Nice meeting you to. Wil was a gentlemen and a scholar. Lacking anything for him to sign, he autographed my soul… or something.
You met will wheaton.
The life of a geek comicmaker is certainly more interesting than i thought it was.
Also loving Wheaton's t-shirt, you should get the rights and sell it at the store 😀
Two details that I love:
Joel standing in panel 1 with eyes filled with derision.
In panel 3, the spilled coffee. I know that they're both small things, but they're both nice little nuggets of humor I enjoyed.
Agreed. Also in panel 3, I like the stack of books now in disarray from the quite literal overstepping (leaning-over?) of boundaries. And Joel's foot kicking up behind him in pure excitement and ridiculousness. Love it.
The cold, intolerant look of derision made me warm inside.
I know I told Joel this on twitter, but I think this comic is visually his strongest to date.
I definitely have to pick up Wil's book now :). I can't believe you got to meet him and his awesome t-shirt! Good times!
Best. T Shirt. Ever.
Did anyone else notice that Wil Wheaton now has a beard like Jonathan Frakes?
There is only one Spacebeard, Captain or not.
I think it just migrates from person to person… it's really a space parasite.
"Spleesh" is my new favorite expression. I suppose somebody's gonna pop in and tell me it's a reference to something now.
Actually, it's the sound that slugs at a rave make when you step on them.
Its from Futurama. Amy Wong always had exclamations that were just a bit off.
"Spluh" was another favorite.
They're not off, that's how college students actually talk in the year 3011. By the time you're 1030 years old, you'll see that I'm right.
So tell us, what type font did Mr. Wheaton use in the restraining order?
Did he use the standard one or go with a Star Trek themed one, just to rub it in?
No, Micheal Dorn show's up with the restraining order and threatens to kill you in deep dulcet tones…
@ bipolarbear
See thanks for pointing that out for me.
I'd always assumed that Mr. Dorn took exception to the comments I'd made at a con once saying his Klingon make-up made him look like the back end of tight-arsed horny toad.
I have to give Wil credit. It would be easy to be dour and hateful towards everyone the way I have seen some crowds treat him in the past. But at a NYC convention 3 years ago I got to speak to him for 5 minutes while he was doing autographs and the dude is quite upbeat and passionate. I wish him lots of success.
Wow. He's looking quite . . . doable.
There is a reason why Joel has his hands in his pockets : P
Funny, this didn't seem like a colossal waste of time.
Also, Wheaton's pose with that shirt evoked memories of Spaceballs.
how weird is it that that Star Trek with Ashley Judd is playing right now as I read this comic?
MAJOR WEIRD.
I totally did that to Chase Masterson a few years back at Wondercon.
The guy in front of me was some photographer and handed her a portfolio. Everything was going smoothly until , 'uh, what is that? how did those get in there?' she came across the naked ladies painted like animals in not so tasteful poses. She was a bit weirded out.
We had a good laugh at his expense when he was out of ear shot. She was really nice.
That t-shirt is excellent, I'm going make one of me just like that,, thanks.
This is such an amazing webcomic! I just discovered it 20 minutes ago and only read two articles, but already I found out over 5 new ways to overstep social boundaries with celebrities 🙂 Ah, and the T-shirt, it's priceless, I want one just like that!
And so… it begins…
