Wil Wheaton and I got excited and made a thing! Check out our University of Gallifrey Fighting Time Lords Shirt over at Sharksplode.
The newly relaunched HE Store is up and running over at Blind Ferret. Please go check it out and maybe buy a book or a shirt or something. Shirts will begin shipping soon.
I’m probably going to go see this Rise Of The Planet of The Apes movie. I hope it’s better than the last one with Marky Mark and Chimpraham Lincoln.
I worked really hard to recreate the style of the classic Curious George books. I hope you enjoy that aspect of the comic. I watch a lot of the current Curious George series with my daughter being that it is infinitely more palatable than your Doras and Diegos and such. One thing that always confuses me is how often people are leaving George in charge of their store or their restaurant while they go run errands. There’s a lot of, “Now George, keep an eye on the store while I’m gone and don’t get into any trouble.” What? What?! He’s a god damn monkey? The moment your back is turned he’s throwing poo at your customers and having sex with your cash register.

Maybe this is how it all starts. First we let them mind our stores, and pizza parlors and hair salons. Next they are throwing school busses into helicopters and running for political office. We need to do what we can to keep these apes oppressed. Next time you see a monkey, look it right in the eyes and call it a shit head. Maybe throw a rock at it. And taped to the rock is a note that says, “Hey Monkey. You’re a shithead.” We’ll know if they are getting too smart if they start throwing the rocks back with new notes that say, “Nah uh! You are!”
COMMENTERS: You going to see this Ape film?
Dallas Fancy Bastards! I am going to be at STRIP: The Dallas Webcomic Expo this Saturday [August 6th] from 10-5pm. It’s only $5 to get in. Come get a book or a sketch. It’s a very low key show and I’ll probably be doing a fun times panel with the dude from Cyanide and Happiness.
AC DEATH UPDATE: As some of you know, my AC died last week and living without AC in Texas is not an option. Buying a replacement unit is $3000 (all of which I do not have). If you enjoy my ability to make comics without dying of heat stroke, please consider making a donation, buying something from the store or buying something from Sharksplode. In the last week you wonderful Fancy Bastards have already donated nearly $800 towards the AC repairs. Thank you so very much. Your generosity means so much to me and my family.
If not C&H, there's always the dude from Times Like This. 😉
Fantastic work Joel. Made me laugh for a few minutes.
The reviews have been really positive so I'm looking forward to seeing the film this weekend. I love the series and am glad the awful Tim Burton film didn't scare them off from making more.
I've seen it. It's completely awesome, like District 9 or Moon. Also, stay through the start of the credits, there's one final scene that caps off the piece.
To answerer your question, no, I think the movie looks terrible, but I hate monkeys, so that might have something to do with it. Good comic tho. 🙂
Can't wait to see it – THE APE-OCALYPSE IS NIGH!
The concept of anthropomorphic animals freaks me the frell out. I haven't even touched the trailer. Eeeeee.
That movie just looks really sad to me; I know I'll end up feeling sorry for the apes and get all depressed about the depravity of man, or something.
I just shot beer out my nose
That'd be doubly impressive if you weren't even drinking beer at the time.
He stores it for situations like this.
I do much like a squirrel storing nuts for the winter…only it's beer
You have an internal beer pouch? That begs all manner of questions…
What, you don't?
Pouch? i would call it a sack.
Very nice Curious George likeness!
I may see the movie. Tom (Draco) Felton plays a ne'er-do-well zookeeper in it.
(I think he's doing an American accent, too)
Andy Serkis is amazing as usual. I'd only seen the original when it came out.
Never saw any sequels.
"George was curious what human eyeballs and testicles tasted like."
Wha? I thought Planet Of The Apes was great. Although I love all the original movies too, even the shitty later ones.
I guess Caesar finally made a monkey out me.
And now all I'm thinking of is break dancing apes.
Bravo Mr Watson, Bravo. you really want the extra mile on the art for this one.
"Oppressed, Slave, Insurrection, Bananas"
I now feel the desire to put that on a protest sign and march with it…
Wonderful art! Really nailed the classic Curious George look!
And I may have snorfled at the punch line.
New monkey movie out this week? Fuck yeah!
Even if it turns out to be a steaming pile of chimp "ammo", it still a freaking monkey movie. How the hell can you not enjoy that?
I present this classic quote from Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back
Jay: Holy fuck, is that monkey waving at us? Oh, shit, It understood us! Maybe it's some kind of supermonkey. What if there's more supermonkeys up at that lab?
Jay: What if they're creating an army of them? Holy shit. It must be a conspiracy like in the X-Files… *Roswell* style! This little monkey could be the fuckin' damn dirty ape responsible for the fall of the human race. In this world gone mad, we won't spank the monkey- the monkey will spank us. And after the fall of man, these monkey fucks'll start wearing our clothes and rebuilding the world in their image. Oh and only those as super smart as me will be left alive to bitterly cry – *you maniacs*! Damn yous! Goddamn yous all to hell!

In case you want to just see the scene
Love the comic! I saw the movie today and it was fantastic! I was really impressed. This was a great prequel to the original movies.
Its actually a reboot not prequel to originals
Not one feces flung. Severely dissapoint!
RE: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Must see! I saw it yesterday with my best friend and it was AWESOME! Make sure you stay in the theatre for a minute after the credits start, or you’ll miss something important. This movie is truly a geek’s dream come true. Lots of Hollywood science, drama, intrigue and Draco! Yes, Tom Felton of Harry Potter fame has a pretty big role as *SPOILER* the asshat who terrorizes Caesar, thus disillusioning him against humans and jump starting his rebellion. This movie is so much better than the abortion that was the PotA remake, they can’t even be said to be in the same franchise. It has just enough fanservice to make it familiar, but doesn’t go over the top. Fun game: see if you can spot Charlton Heston in the background of one of the scenes.
As far as the comic goes, very well done.
Captured the style very well.
As for the movie… on the one hand, people keep telling me it's awesome and I should see it.
Plus, it's a movie that actually looks good.
On the other hand… THEY'RE MONKEYS. JUST SHOOT THEM. PROBLEM SOLVED.
To quote Heavy Weapons Guy, "I've yet to meet one that can outsmart bullet."
High explosives can solve anything, well except for acne but it can solve anything else.
Blow your face off- sure, now you have bigger problems, but acne sure as hell isn't one of them.
