NYCC Guest Week has started!
I am going to be at New York Comic-Con with Blind Ferret at Booth #1821 this weekend (10-13 to 10-16). Come say hi with your mouth and purchase things with your money. I will be giving out free “Sci-Fives” all weekend [the hand gesture, not the t-shirt].
Paul Southworth of Not Invented Here starts off guest week right by trying to convince us all that people actually watch videos of other people playing Internet blocks Minecraft… wait, what? That’s a real thing? Well, holy shit. You learn something questionable every day.
Paul has one of the most unique art styles in webcomics. I’ve always envied his ability to create characters with uniquely shaped body types and non-standard proportions. He isn’t confined by realism and that allows him to draw characters that are actually fun to look at. His style is like a curvier Gendy Tartakovsky. It’s something my brain absolutely will not let me do. Now he has gone so far as to show me what MY OWN CHARACTERS would look like if I knew how draw them correctly. That miserable sonuvabitch.
A million years ago I did a guest comic for Paul’s now concluded comic Ugly Hill. You can see more great HijiNKS ENSUE Guest Comics by other awesome artists HERE.
COMMENTERS: Do you do this Minecraft video thing? Feel feel to post yours or your favorites in the comments.
I think it's kind of like when people make videos for unusual or exotic Lego creations and upload them on YouTube, except they do it with shiny, pixely, blocky, blocks… Speaking of which, I've seen them for Terraria (a 2D Minecraft clone-ish) too!
I think they're kind of neat when they showcase unusual/exotic creations like a replica of the Enterprise (http://youtu.be/kn2-d5a3r94)
I have killed every creeper before. …I blew up the entire map from the glitch borders to the bottom level and covered it with lava. Nothing could survive outside of my tower of power. …the alternative is to go to the edges of the map and cover it with light sources. …then I covered the tunnels with light sources.
I know there's a cock block joke here somewhere.
Probably falls in somewhere with the the phallic monuments people make in minecraft
I was mainly referring to the Lego thing from the first panel.
What do you call Legos that were used to jack someone off? Cock blocks.
Hard as it may be for some people (youtube uploaders included) to understand, killing stuff is not the point of minecraft. Building stuff is the point of minecraft and you just sometimes have to kill stuff in order to build.
Dis iz de Captain uf Sveeden. Ve haf received yor complaint und are avare uf de problem. De perpetrator vill be cast oot upon de fjords wit naught but a mackrel knife. If de great Odin be merciful, de vulfs uf vinter vill grant him a svift death. Tack sa mycket foor yor consideration und please visit Sveeden soon!
Fjords is in Norway. The more you know ^.^…. Of course, we COULD deport them to Norway, but I think that counts as "cruel and unusual punishment"…
Minecraft is a unique sort of game that lends itself especially well to gameplay videos. Everyone spawns in a randomly generated world and left to their own devices, so everyone's experience will be different. Watching a "Let's Play" of a game you've already gotten through is usually pretty boring because you always know what's going to happen pretty much.
Personally, I've recently gotten into Yogscast's Minecraft series, where a Laurel-and-Hardy-esque duo try out upcoming updates to the game or mods they recently found. There's also some videos where they use the game to role-play or something; I haven't bothered to watch any of those.
Minecraft!! <3
The reason Minecraft is such a popular game to do Let's Plays on is that there are so many things you can do with it. From survival adventures to amazing constructions, from puzzle maps (like the Portal-inspired Ecapecraft series) to evil complete-the-monument maps (the Super Hostile series <3), from RP-ing to just blowing stuff up or setting them on fire… The possibilities of that game are endless.
