Urban Renewal

The only geek greeting you’ll ever need! The Sci-Five!
Get up on that Sci-Five shirt business!

Sci-Five Shirt from HijiNKS ENSUE At Topatoco

I thought we were just joking around, but apparently some dudes took the “we should build a murder robot statue” thing pretty seriously. Good for them. I expect the Robocop statue in Detroit will quickly get vandalized with street teens trying to pry open his leg hoping to find a machine gun within.

Another thing: The HijiNKS ENSUE PODCAST Crew makes a cameo in this Guilded Age. I have no idea what’s going on in that comic plot-wise, but the likenesses are great.

  1. Okay, the highlight text for this comic really got me. All you have to worry about is the roving packs of wild dogs? Not a joke! My brother works in one of the seedier parts of town and while driving to the potato chip factory where he works as a computer consultant (less Willy Wonka than I had hoped, but more than I expected), we literally saw a pack of about five huge, feral dogs. They were tearing something apart in front of a boarded up house surrounded by torn down houses. I really did not want to know what/who it was.

  2. Also! 8 mile=not scary at all. 8 mile is the boundary of the city. It's a metaphor for the disparity between the rich and the poor. Detroit's a weird place. There are insanely nice neighborhoods right next to staggering poverty.

  3. I once opened for a Tower Of Power cover band called "Urban Renewal".

You'll have to excuse me, I cut my left thumb cooking yesterday and that's the finger that hits the keys that make my comments relevant and/or interesting.

  4. If they do end up getting a Robocop statue, I'll go there when no one else is around, fall to my knees and shout, "You maniacs! You blew it up! Damn you! Damn you all to hell!!"

  5. "The people of Detroit are revolting."
    "Of course they're revolting… they're from Detroit!"

My tribute to Mel Brooks and Harvey Corman for today.

  6. I'll be sure to bring some Tres Feo to the HE Podcast recording session tonight…

Although… I'm reminded of the OCP Prime Directives:

    1. Serve the public trust.
    2. Protect the innocent.
    3. Uphold the law.
    4. CLASSIFIED (Enforce Tres Feo prohibition)
