Potter And Daughter is a Harry Potter themed podcast where Joel Watson (cartoonist, geek dad and creator of the online comic HijiNKS ENSUE) talks to his eight year old daughter, Lily, as she reads through the Harry Potter book series.

In each episode Joel and Lily cover about 1/4 to 1/5 of a book, discussing what happened, why it happened and what lessons Lily is learning from the books as she reads them. It’s part Cliff’s Notes and part cute and instrospective conversation between a father and daughter who love the same books for the same (and sometimes totally different) reasons.

In episode eighteen of Potter And Daughter Joel and Lily pick up on Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix at chapter 7 and discuss everything through chapter 12. Harry faces expulsion (AGAIN) and has a trial at the Ministry of Magic. Dumbledore provides aid, but is still distant. Hogwarts has two new Gryffindor Prefects, but not the ones you might think, and we are introduced to the latest in a long line of less than desirable Defense Against The Dark Arts teachers.

In episode seventeen of Potter And Daughter Joel and Lily start out on Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix and cover chapters 1-6. This is the first book in the series that Lily has not read all the way through as of the time of our recording. Harry isn’t being kept in the cupboard any more, but he IS being kept in the dark by everyone that supposedly cares about him. Dudley has a Dementor encounter, Harry gets expelled (again?), but not really (again?), then is kidnapped by allies old and new and taken to The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black to find out what The Order is really all about.

In episode sixteen of Potter And Daughter Joel and Lily wrap up Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire with a discussion of chapters 32-37. Harry is transported to an unexpected place and finally meets his greatest foe face to noseless face. After a final act of love and protection from his parents, Harry returns with what’s left of Cedric to Hogwarts and, together with his professors, he learns who’s really been pulling his strings all year.

In episode fifteen of Potter And Daughter Joel and Lily cover chapters 27-31 of Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire. Harry reunites with his godfather, and has several visions courtesy of his Divination Class dreams and Dumbledore’s Pensieve. Armed with more knowledge of Death Eaters past and a few new spells, Harry tackles the 3rd Tri-Wizard Tournament Task, where victory, it seems, may not be his best option.

In episode fourteen of Potter And Daughter Joel and Lily discuss the events of chapters 19-26 of Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire. Harry is a Tri-Wizard Champion whether he likes it or not, and that means being tasked with… tasks! He faces the first two which see him in a sky high dragon battle and a deep sea mermaid mission. Harry, Ron and Hermione also get their first lessons in teenage courtship rituals and not all of them pass with flying colors.
