Potter And Daughter is a Harry Potter themed podcast where Joel Watson (cartoonist, geek dad and creator of the online comic HijiNKS ENSUE) talks to his eight year old daughter, Lily, as she reads through the Harry Potter book series.

In each episode Joel and Lily cover about 1/4 to 1/5 of a book, discussing what happened, why it happened and what lessons Lily is learning from the books as she reads them. It’s part Cliff’s Notes and part cute and instrospective conversation between a father and daughter who love the same books for the same (and sometimes totally different) reasons.

In episode twenty-eight of Potter And Daughter Joel and Lily begin discussing Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, covering chapters 1-8. Snape takes his place at his master’s table, Harry says goodbye to #4 Privet Drive for the last time, seven Potter’s take to the skies and Harry loses more than one friend in a single night. Harry, Ron and Hermione try to plan their next adventure as everyone around them plans a wedding. Dumbledore imparts his final gifts to the three friends and two wizarding families are happily joined, but the celebration is cut short by an ominous warning.

In episode twenty-seven of Potter And Daughter Joel and Lily finish covering Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince with chapters 26-30. Harry and Dumbledore go spelunking for Horcruxes, which isn’t nearly as fun as it sounds, then, upon returning to Hogwarts, stumble onto an assassination plot in the works. Harry chases the attackers from the castle, and in the process learns the unlikely identity of the Half Blood Prince. Harry, his friends and his teachers are left to grieve, and a loyal friend decides to leave Hogwarts forever. After a funeral, Harry tries to leave Hogwarts and his friends behind as he sets out on his final mission, but going off alone proves more difficult than he expects.

In episode twenty-six of Potter And Daughter Joel and Lily discuss Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince chapters 21-25. Harry knows where Draco is hiding, but can’t see to catch him in the act, but with a little liquid luck Harry is able to complete the mission Dumbledore assigned to him at the beginning of the school year. Harry and Dumbledore learn Voldemort’s darkest secret, and Harry commits his darkest deed to date (albeit by accident). Finally, Professor Trelawney gives Harry two bits of news that distress him greatly, but Dumbledore stops him before he stomps through the floor so they can go off together and hunt Horcruxes.

In episode twenty-five of Potter And Daughter Joel and Lily cover Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince chapters 14-20. Harry slips Ron a Quidditch confidence boost in his drink… or does he? Ron and Hermione are on the outs and Harry is stuck in the middle. Harry attends the Slug Club Christmas party, spies on Malfoy, and rebuffs the Minister’s request for an official endorsement. Harry and Dumbledore witness more Riddle memories and the Headmaster urges Harry to retrieve an important memory from his Potions professor. Ron gets poisoned twice on his birthday. Once by a love potion misfire and again by… ACTUAL POISON! Harry joins Ron in the hospital wing after a Quidditch mishap, and orders his house elf helpers to spy on Draco. Finally, Harry and Dumbledore use the Penceive to see Tom Riddles transformation into Voldemort.

In episode twenty-four of Potter And Daughter Joel and Lily delve into Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince chapters 7-13. Harry is more suspicious of Draco than he’s ever been, Professor Slughorn courts Harry for the Slug Club, and Snape lands his dream job which might turn into a nightmare for Harry. Harry gets some unexpected help in potions class, Hermione steps out of bounds to aid Ron’s Quidditch career and a Hogwarts student is attacked at Hogsmeade. But, was the attack meant for her, Harry or someone else entirely? Finally Harry, with the help of Dumbledore, begins to learn about the troubling origins and early life of his greatest enemy.
