The Unrelenting Muse

Wil Wheaton and I got excited and made this Three Wheaton Moon shirt. You can buy it! Then you can wear it! Only two steps to total geeky happiness? Sign me up!

Three Wheaton Moon T-Shirt, Funny Three Wolf Moon Parody, Wil Wheaton T-Shirt, 3 Wil Wheaton Moon, Clown Sweater, Wesley Crusher, Evil Wil Wheaton

The panels above represent an [somewhat] exaggerated examination of the Joel/Wil creative process. You see, every time Wil and I make something, I really can’t tell if it’s going to be a thing that only we love or that everyone will love. I usually have a good barometer for that sort of thing, but where Wil is concerned the unrestrained enthusiasm he exudes when it comes to making cool stuff is infectious and blinding. I often finish whatever dark task Wil has… tasked me with, then sit back and look at what mine hands have wrought and scream aloud to the heavens, “OMGWTF THIS IS HILARIOUS! EXCEPT PROBABLY ONLY THE GEEKIEST 5% OF PEOPLE IN THE WORLD WILL GET IT! OH WELL! WHATEVER! I STILL LIKE IT!” Then I remember that we are citizens of Internet and Internet is where the geekiest 5% of people are running the game.

As Wil is fond of saying, “I’m positive we will sell fives of these!” I know we are both really pleased with this shirt and hope you enjoy it as well.  It also makes a really great gift. How better to tell someone, “I bet you are a huge weirdo.”?

Joel Watson of HijiNKS ENSUE at Baltimore Comicon 2011

Baltimore Comic-Con is this weekend! I will be in the Artist Alley right next to Dannielle Corsetto at Table #A187 or so. I will have books 1 and 2, “The Doctor Is In” shirts, “Team Edward [James Olmos]” shirts and “Ewok Stare” shirts, plus prints, stickers and Fancy Sketches.

We have had a really fantastic Fancy Bastard meetup each year. Details HERE on G+ or talk to FB Adam (who is organizing it) directly on G+ or Twitter. Hope to see you at the show and the meetup!

UPDATE: You asked for it, so I added a “Three Wheaton Moon” desktop to The Vault. I’ve also added “Chibi Wolverine” and “Winter Is Coming” desktops as well. Just make a donation of any amount, or sign up for a recurring donation subscription and you’ll get access. I’ve also added mobile versions of these desktops HERE.

  1. Actually, the title "Three Wil Moon" would be better as a reference to the original, IMO.

And if you ever really want to give up that Wheaton-ite Obsession, there is a cure: watch an entire season of Babylon5 in one sitting then work on caricatures of both Bill Mumy and Stephen Furst. (It worked for me.)

  2. Could have gotten extra bonus points for having Wil's phone being inside Data's stomach as in the "Phantasm" episode 🙂

  3. 20 sided dice for wheels, I have now seen everything and can go on my final journey into the heart of the desert. Also that would make for a really uncomfortable ride.

  4. Oh man, Joel. You don't know what you have wrought there. You are toying with forces you do not comprehend – namely the teenage girl crush on young Master Wil that lurks inside every 200 pound geek girl like me. And then you taunt us – TAUNT US! – with a shiny shiny t-shirt that is only available up to 2XL in girl styles!

[The thing is, $21.95 plus shipping to Europe is just too much money for me to risk ending up with a non-fitting shirt. Which is why I can never have any of those lovely, lovely geeky shirts… I'm not bitter, I swear! And it's of course not your problem, it's mine. 🙂 Just needed to vent a bit.]

    • In my experience the ladies' shirts do tend to run small–I'm 160-ish pounds and the women's 2XL "Team Edward" shirt is only very slightly baggy on me. Maybe go for one of the men's sizes instead? Because awesome shirt is AWESOME.

Or you could just do what I did when I found the very last Firefly logo shirt on clearance in the last non-crappy Hot Topic in town–buy it even though it's tiny and hang it up on your bedroom wall, like the cool kids with their sports jerseys.

    • You probably dont want the girls cut. They just run super small. There is definitely a size for you in the unisex cut. There are links to sizing charts on the store and shipping to the UK is only $10.

      • Oh, damn you being all reasonable and helpful and lovely like that… next month's wages are going to some HE shirts. Yes, several, to make it REALLY worth shipping to Germany.
I'm just glad the Euro is still rather strong…

  5. The best part about the Picard-phone? Guinness is dispensed straight out of the nose, just like in real life!
Only Wheaton-o-fun can rock the checkered shoes in this day and age without the need for irony.
Still, it's sad that even in an idealized setting, poor Wil can't roll 20's.
Those kids won't sass me once I can summon Wils!
Something tells me that the red in the real clown sweater was also made of blood, probably from an orphan.

    And I'm spent.

  6. I was trying to figure out what the wheels were when I started reading the comments… and then I lost it. Well played, Joel! That may just be the geekiest thing these eyes have ever seen.

And that shirt is comic gold. I would buy it, except I think that clown sweater would haunt my nightmares. So there's that.

  7. Yes, as the kids say…this comic is made of all kinds of win!

I especially love the d20 cycle (WilPod) and the line "I got here as soon as I felt like it"…I'm using that one in City of Heroes from now on.

    Well done!

  8. I think the d20 moon needed a little hint of a borg cube. That was my first thought until I saw the numbers

  9. OMG, just so frackin' awesome! I don't know which is better, the comic or the shirt! I love the expression of Wesley on the shirt. So dorky. So perfect!

  10. the dialogue in this comic is (as it tends to be) just great. One of the things I've loved most about your comicing style is that it's not just one punchline at the end, but a bunch of funny bits and quirky dialogue building to the final gag (which may or may not top the gags along the way, but it's a sure thing that somewhere in there SOMETHING is going to hit your personal funny bone).

BTW, was there ever any real chance of that Wheaton plushie/dice bag from a while ago becoming an actual thing that we can trade monies for? Has anything happened on that end? Will we ever get the chance to store dice inside a Will?(without getting assault charges filed against us for trying…)

    • First of all, thank you for the kind words regarding the comic. What you are describing is exactly what I set out to do, so its nice to hear that its hitting home for some.

      Secondly, re: the Wheaton Plush…

      Watch this space.

  11. Well now you have done it.. I must buy this along with the Dr. is in shirt for my husband for Christmas. Oh the Wheatony goodness.

  12. I would buy the Three Wheaton Moon shirt, but…the clown sweater frightens me. And I'm not afraid of clowns…just that sweater.
    The horribly evil sweater.
It leers at me…it leers at ALL of you!

On the other hand, my University of Gallifrey: Fighting Timelords shirt came in. And was indeed, the wootness. Squared, 'cause it's both Joel and Wil.

One request…is it too much to ask for shirts to be available in black? I have a wardrobe thing going.
