A Minor Scheduling Conflict

I think I’ve mentioned that I’ll be attending The New England Webcomics Weekend once or twice. I’m very excited to catch up with webcomicer friends, make some new ones and hang out with some Fancy Bastards.

There was some talk on the Twitters of throwing together an impromptu Battlestar Galactica Finale viewing tonight during the Pub Crawl” phase of NEWW. I am all for that. I know if I try to wait until I get home on Monday some internet mother fucker is going to spoil the ending for me. If you see me racing through the streets of Easthampton, MA naked, covered in blood and screaming in my Col. Tigh voice you can rest assured I was a victim of spoilage most foul.

So, can you name all the webcomics peoples in today’s comic? I’ll give you a clue… one of them is me. If you’re watching the BSG Final Frakfest tonight, what are your plans? A group assault with your whole Viper squadron or a solo mission so no one sees the tears?

I’ll be out of touch until next week in every fashion other than Twitter, so follow me up on it and I’ll keep you up to date on which of your favorite webcomic creators is the most drunk at any given time.

Expanding Our Culinary Horizons (Guest Comic by Tindómiel Muinamir)

Denise is actually quite the cook. I’ve always been OMNOMingly impressed with her culinary concoctions in the past. Though her people do have a nagging tendency to eat bile, and blood and unborn baby ducks and occasionally send a species to extinction for the sake of a good sammich. Though it might be beyond even her iron pallet to take on a hybrid Bacon Explosion/Great Old One. Maybe if it had more bile. Mmmmm… biley.

A gigantic FB thank you to Tindómiel for another fantastically fancy guest comic. Based on this and her last one, I now have a working theory that she has a thing for drawing tentacles and tongues.

Friday I leave for New England Webcomics Weekend, but I am working on having a new HE comic complete before I leave. I realized that I couldn’t let the BSG series finale go by without a proper HE send off. Who knows if I’ll actually see it on Friday or if I’ll have to wait until I get home. There is some Twitter talk of a showing after the Friday Night Pub Crawl.

Speaking of, If you want to communicate or keep up with what I’m doing while I’m away at NEWW, you should probably follow me on Twitter.

I won’t be back in Dallas until Monday, so I really don’t know if there will be a Monday comic or not. I am hoping to find some time to whip one out either at the Hotel or at the show, but I have no idea how much down time I’ll have. Maybe I’ll so a “con-sketchbook” style comic like Penny Arcade does.

I’m Going To Be In Pictures (Guest Comic By Didu)

Those Hollywood FOOLS! They have no idea how much bacon I can eat. I assume after the international release I would be paid residuals in Canadian bacon.

I am spending this week catching up on projects and preparing for Webcomics Weekend so, once again, Didu has graced us with her unique interpretation of the HE crew. I LOVE how she draws these guys. I am considering ripping off some of her ideas for my next character design revisions. I also enjoy the fact that her guest comics always deal with the actual people behind the HE characters and not the characters themselves. I think she bases her guest comics more on the Podcast Crew than the comic, which spices things up.

So, regarding the HE movie… SHIA EFFING THE’BEAF?! I can only assume he’s playing me. I know he draws a box office crowd, but come-fucking-on! Was Christian Bale not available? Did anyone call Edward Norton’s people? At least give me Paul Rudd or John Cussack. Jesus Titty-Manipulating Christ Shia Lebeouf Mother Fuck.

Alright, Fancy Bastards. Let’s get this movie pitch down before we take it to H-Wood. Who’s playing who? Who’s directing? What’s the plot? Drama, comedy, psychological thriller or straight up zombie love story? Gimme the over all arch for a trilogy? 20 years later what will the prequels focus on and how will they fuck up the canon? Product tie ins? Is there a talking CGI dog or just a cameo by Jackie Chan as Denise’s dad? THE COMMENTS BECKON YOU WITH THEIR SIREN SONG!

The Dietary Habbits Of Procyon Iotor

…Or the common North American Raccoon.

I have no idea why I did this comic, so don’t ask me. Raccoons and iPods? Whatever. The multi-hair-colored young lady in panels 1 and 2 is long time friend of HijiNKS Ensue, Stacy. She is soon to be an Apple Genius at our local Apple store but hasn’t yet completed the ritual blood rights or the “Sacred Hunt.” They send you out into the mall and if you don’t come back with the half eaten heart of a PC user you have to battle 7 food court employees including the manager of Sbarro. He’s enourmous and armed with a calzone. My only regret, art-wise, is that I wasn’t able to showcase all of her facial piercings in this limited pixel format. Sorry Stacy. I tried.

I don’t have a strong opinion about the new 3G iPod Shuffle or the feaux-controversey surrounding it’s total lack of buttons. If you like it, buy it. If you hate it, don’t. I do find it interesting, however, that every SNL sketch and Onion story that mocks Apples disdain for all things button seems to come true. Soon enough, purchasing an iPod will actually REMOVE buttons from your other devices. It will litterally have negative buttons.

Novelty Cake Toppers

COMIC SCHEDULE FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS: Comics this week will be Tuesday and Thursday. Guest comics will run next week while I get everything in order for New England Webcomics Weekend.

I got a chance to meet Danielle Corsetto at STAPLE this weekend in Austin, TX. All of the girls in this comic are from her most EXCELLENT comic “Girls With Slingshots.” I highly recommend it. STAPLE seemed like a fun, non-threatening con, and based on Danielle’s endorsement I think I will exhibit there next year.

I was visiting family in Austin, but my wife and I managed to sneak away and finally see “Watchmen.” There was WAY more dong than I expected, but I thought it was tastefully done. Floppity, yet tasteful. I am waiting for someone on YourTubes to put out the “ALL DONG” special edit of the film.

I really enjoyed the movie. It was slow at times, but it seemed appropriate. The story and characters carried a lot of weight and it would have seemed phony if they sped through the narrative. I’m anxious to read the comic now and see what I think after taking it all in. I got the feeling from the movie that I knew where the “comic issues” began and ended. The tension seemed to rise and fall about 12 times during the film. Did I mention the dong? There was a lot of it.
