Going to see TRON: Legacy tonight. Some of you think it sucks (or SARKs), and some of you think it was a religious experience. I’ll let you know what I think via Twitter after the show. I really hope it’s great, though I can’t get past how creeped out I am by CG enyoungened Jeff Bridges. That’s some real Polar Express type shit there.
Fancy Bastards Jeffrotull and CoveredWagon Kid sent me something amazing. The PO Box is on the contact page if you want to try to outdo them (I doubt anyone can).
Some of you have asked, so I put up an Amazon wish list.
Discuss your thoughts on TRON in the comments, but let’s keep it spoiler free since it is still opening weekend.
Love the 58008.
And I'll admit that the movie was great, but my review is going to be geek biased.
I enjoyed it, but couldn't get over the CG enyoungening. It creeped me out as well.
Sadness stew seems like it should include the tears of orphans and kittens, fried live ducklings, and… wait a minute this is starting to sound like one of Denise's family recipes.
Now my head is filled with a bizarre cacophony of electro and guitars as I hear Tool covering "Harder, Better, Stronger, Faster" while claymation lightcycles wrapped in dingy burlap race through organic darkness. I'm going to put on A Perfect Circle so I can meld Identification Discs with bananas and nudibranchs.
way to go, Joel. I think you broke him.
get out of my head
I'm totally having ownership issues with Tron. I've gone from planning a road trip to see it in IMAX 3D to huddling fetal in the corner (okay, it's also a cold night) muttering something about them finally getting around to raping MY childhood. So yeah, I could go either way here.
Ironically enough, now Tron could too. Get it? Because the raping.
(I first read that as "madness stew". Why not.)
But whatever, I think I'll just get the soundtrack.
I hate to be THAT guy, but the third frame should say "AN unbiased source" as opposed to "a unbiased source." That is all.
I liked it a lot. The Enyounging was really out of place in the beginning. They just cant get those holes in goo-like mouths right.
The writing was ass, but not Avatar levels of ass.
However, everything else was above par. Lots of visual nods towards other movies. The director and art department knew their shit.
I wrote my review in a melange of patois and symbolism; then in the second draft, I tried English: here are the results; http://bit.ly/i3VvKa What do you think?
I thought it was fantastic. The story was simple yet believable, the symbolism of it didn't bother me at all, but I could see some one getting annoyed with all the God talk. The "twist" was well done and not harped on, and the effects were stellar and the acting was great.
The only thing I had a major problem with was the odd TV thing in the beginning and just how long it take's to get to the "grid". As for the CG de-aging it was bad in the beginning, but the parts in the grid were fine to me, though it was a CG world at that point so it wasn't sticking out.
Say what you want about the movie, that light cycle scene was enough to make me jizz in my pants. Although I though young Jeff Bridges' mouth was a little creepy. (I bet it's the secret ingredient in sadness stew.)
