Hosting Woes Continue
You probably haven’t noticed but my server has been going down at least once every two days. The Apache web server process is dying and I don’t know why. I just have to turn it back on by hand.
After the Bluehost.com cluster fuck, I moved to Media Temple. They seemed like a good fit, but turned out to be a little too good. On the Dedicated Virtual plan I got with them ($50/mo) they expect you to have an onsite admin at all times. They don’t offer any tech support.
I emailed to ask them what was going on with my server and they responded with directions for reading the error logs through SSH or some shit.
So it looks like I’ve bitten off more than I can chew (and afford) with them.
Last time around everyone was creaming over DreamHost.com. Do you use them? Any problems? Any major successes? Did they survive the “Digg Effect” for you?
At least I dont have 48 hours to decide like last time. I can take my time, plan ahead and make the transition easy.
UDPATE:
Nevermind: Server Karate was performed by Farris and I’m just reaching my guaranteed Memory limit rather often. Memory upgrades with Media Temple are outrageous, but I’m definitely not moving back (down) to shared hosting. That is unless there is a new share hosting provider with HIGH Mem and CPU limits.
Looks like I’m well on my way to need a REAL dedicated box.
“Undefeatable” VHS Shitty Movie Challenge!
The Idea:
“Undefeatable” is one of the shittiest movie’s we’ve ever seen. We want to share the pain or watching it, and the joy of making fun of it with all the Fancy Bastards out there.
The Rules:
- We will send the first person on the list the VHS tape of “Undefeatable.”
- You must watch the movie with at least 3 other people.
- You must bring food and drinks to enjoy with the movie. Make a party of it.
- You must MST3K the movie. Trust me that this will be the only real entertainment provided.
- You must PROVE that you did this through pictures on Flickr (or another photo site) or Videos on YouTube. Post links on THIS thread to your picture or video exploits. If you review the movie or the experience on your blog, post a link to that too.
- You must sign and date the library card inside the VHS Case
- You must send the tape to the next Fancy Bastard on the list. I suggest using the VHS tape boxes for Priority mail that the USPS provides.
- Feel Free to add anything you like to the package to make it more exciting for the next recipient.
I only need the address of the first person on the list. Everyone else will be responsible for contacting each other through the comments or via email to set up the next delivery of the tape. Please try and be timely and not keep the tape for more than a week (less if possible).

Comments Outage/Shirt Orders/Monday’s Comic
Comment Outage:
Intense Debate will be doing scheduled upgrades from 12am – 4am. All comments will vanish, then magically reappear several hours later.
Shirt Orders:
Shirts ordered from April 1st to April 18th are at the printer now. I should get them next week, then turn around and get them out to you. Thanks for you patience as I launch the new store. The process will get much faster in the weeks to come.
Monday’s Comic:
The comic probably won’t be up until the afternoon. I usually stay up util 4am drawing on Sunday night, but I desperately need to reset my sleepklok (sleepklock, SLEEPKLOK!).
This week:
Expect a new podcast, new video blogs, updates on “The Experiment” and new items (not just shirts) in the store.

Second thing to not hold me to: George Lucas is known for crafting overly verbose titles to his movies. What movies would you like to see renamed by Lucas. Again, he MIGHT be calling in.
