TCAF 2011 Fancy Photo Comic Part 1

Rather than trying to recount every single crazy awesome thing that happened at TCAF in Toronto last weekend, I will instead communicate my excitement through photo comics.

The Doctor Is In T-Shirt

“The Doctor Is In” shirt based off the “You’re The Last of The Time Lords, Charlie Brown” comic is here!

This first installment contains the pre-show party at Ryan North’s house. He is the goodest of good people. He opened his home and his fridge to countless wayward cartoonists and we are all better for it. There was actually a bathtub full of beer. I don’t know if this is standard in all Canadian homes of if he went out of his way for us. I have my suspicions.

Featured in the first half of this comic are my favorite comicing girls, Danielle and Angela. They were the first two cartoonists I’d ever hung out with at a con, and the first to make me feel like part of the team. The man stalked by the captain is Chris, and elsewhere in panel 4 are my roommate/travel companion Paul, Bernie, @realitymonster and way off in the back there’s a bit of Anthony.

The second half of the photo comic shenanigans take place at the TCAF after-party hosted by Jeffrey of Topatoco at BMB Karaoke. The pocket monster enthusiasts are Becky and Frank, along with a repete performance from Angela. Frank and I made a pact to sing as many 90’s nu-metal songs as possible that night. Despite the Papa Roach and and System Of  A Down we belted out, I managed to only get video of him singing “Gangsta’s Paradise.” Early in the night Questionable Jeph concocted a plan to bring the house down and queued up “Don’t Stop Believin” so that  it would appear almost last in the rotation. I have video of his performance but I dare not upload it for fear of imploding The Internet. I also have a video of him singing “Enter Sandman” but that’s just for me…. juuussst for meeeee. Also seen in these panels are Sam “Fuzzy” Logan and his fiance Shannon. Sam will factor more into tomorrow’s photo comic when I show you what happened during the actual show.

TCAF 2011 Fancy Sketches Part 1

Still decompressing from my trip to Toronto for TCAF 2011. If you missed part 1 of my TCAF sketches you can see it HERE [even if you didn’t miss it, I updated the coloring and added the alt-text so go check it out again]. Canada was kind to me, and I expect a return trip is inevitable. Wednesday and Thursday I’ll be posting photo comics from the trip.

Very special thanks to my friend Paul Westover, who is the artist for the comic Woody After Hours. You may remember Paul from THIS very beardly HE guest comic. He was kind enough to drive me from Buffalo to Canada and back, thus making the trip possible. It turns out flying directly from Texas to Canada costs $100,000. Even with the exchange rate, that’s still a lot of money. Paul and I watched the season finale of Fringe at his place, so even though I am not getting to it right away, rest assured that it will be covered in the comic (holy crapgasm was it amazing).

Roam If You Want To

TORONTO: I AM IN YOU! TCAF is this weekend! RIGHT NOW IN FACT!!!

I will be at table 222 (with Topatoco) on the 2nd floor Saturday 5/7 and Sunday 5/8. I will have books 1 and 2 (and I will draw dumb things in them for you), stickers, buttons, prints ( a “The Doctor Is In” print), and maybe a couple of shirts.

Sharksplode.com - Geeky Nerdy T-Shirts, Funny Tee ShirtsI was concerned that during my trip to Toronto I might have the urge to  tweet about famous Canadian coffee in red cups or tiny delicious donuts, only to come home to find that AT&T had placed a lien on my house… or my child. So I called them to talk about adding international data to my plan for a month. They told me I could add 20mb of Canadata for $25 (THAT IS A SUPER FARE PRICE YOU GUYS), or I could pay the standard rate of… wait for it… $20 per… (I bet you think I’m going to say Gigabyte)…. (I’m not)… per…. MEGA-MOTHERFUCKING-BYTE! That’s roughly $30 for the contents of a floppy disk! Jesus H. Canadian Curling Christ!

@thathenderson had a good point, “Think of it this way: An invisible floppy flying over your head in a million pieces costs ONLY $28.” I guess I am complaining about how expensive MAGIC is.

Anyway, I will be pretty silent this weekend unless I come across some free wifi. Do you Canadian guys get that with the healthcare? Also, this will likely be the last comic of the week since I will be travelling all day Friday. Hopefully I will get some pics and make some Fancy Photo Comics when I get back.

Come see me at TCAF. Money is SUPER tight right now and I need this to be a good con or I’m going to have to take on some more freelance projects which typically means less comics for you. If you can’t make it, maybe consider making a donation, buying something from the store, buying Book 2, or a Sharksplode shirt why don’tcha?

COMMENTERS: What other digital crimes might I commit and what penalties may I face while in the Great White North?

Blu-Ray Harvest – Episode II: Rerelease Of The Jedi

TORONTO: I AM COMING FOR YOU! TCAF is this weekend!
I will be at table 222 (with Topatoco) on the 2nd floor Saturday 5/7 and Sunday 5/8. I will have books 1 and 2 (and I will draw dumb things in them for you), stickers, buttons, prints (probably a “The Doctor Is In” print), and maybe a couple of shirts.

Part 1 of this comic is HERE and was published almost exactly one year ago.

It’s the forth of May. Outdoor f… lightsaber battles start today. The street date for Star Wars: The Complete Essential Masterclass Compendium Edition on Blu-ray has been set for mid September, which means (like Josh) many of you will be purchasing Star Wars for the 4th or 5th time. Let’s count’em up: There was the laser disc set, the VHS special editions, the DVD of 1,2 and 3, the Super special edition DVD’s of the classic trilogy (4, 5 and 6), the unaltered original trilogy DVD’s (in which the un-fucked with films were considered “bonus material”), The Prequel Trilogy and Original Trilogy box sets (the “all new box art” only versions mentioned in the comic above), and The Complete Saga on Blu-Ray (with the promise of 3D to come). I think “buying Star Wars again” is the “buying The White Album” for our generation.

This new set has over 40 hours of bonus material, much of which has never been seen before. I think it was Rick McCallum that said something like “we keep finding daylies and alternate takes you people have never seen, so we keep adding them in, blah blah, whatever.” It seems less like they are actually discovering new footage and behind the scenes footage and more like they are seeing evidence of its existence on the Periodic Table of Star Wars. It’s like they look at the holes on the table and start postulating which “making of’s” and bits of b-roll have the precise atomic mass to site between a 6 hour documentary about Anthony Daniels getting into his brass unitard, and a behind the scenes vignette called “Who Really Shot First? Who Really Cares Anymore?

COMMENTERS: Are you going to buy Star Wars again? Why or why not? What other formats might future generations enjoy Star Wars on [read the alt-text]? Why else may be included? More features, more documentaries, more films?
