Looks like we’ll be leaving town either tonight or tomorrow morning for a funeral. My wife’s grandfather passed away yesterday. The funeral is near my hometown (Beaumont, TX), which is about a 5 hour drive from Dallas.
Not sure what this means for the site yet, but family comes first. I assume I will miss at least one comic update, and the podcast will either be late or not happen at all this week.
Once I get to Beaumont, I have no idea if I’ll even have internet access. I most likely won’t unless I can drive around until I find an open access point. I will have my iphone, so I can receive and reply to emails, but I don’t think I can respond to comments.
I’ll post more when I know more.
-Joel
Sad to hear it. Good luck.
Sorry to hear, Joel. My condolences to you guys and your in-laws.
Sorry to hear about that. Safe travels, and my condolences to your family.
Seriously, just put up a big-ass banner that says, "Back in a Few Days!" You shouldn't have to sweat the site when this kind of thing happens. -Drive safe.
I agree with the above. As much as I will miss the comics (and as much as I would hate to have to reread Bacon arm for a few days, lol, jk) You shouldn't have to worry about the site. We promise not to destroy the place too badly while you are away.
Oh and some happy thoughts in yall's time of sorrow:

Seriously, "family comes first" shouldn't even have to be said. Condolences to your wife and in-laws, and if you'll allow me another Irish saying, "May he have been in heaven a full half-hour before the devil even knew he'd passed."
Sorry to hear that.
More bad news – you won't be able to respond to comments via your iPhone (unless you really are The One).
Family always comes first. We'll all be here where you get back. Drive safe.
Take as much time as you need. It's important to be there for family when something like this happens.
Of course family comes first. We Fancy Bastards may be bastards, but we still (strangely) know what a family is. I feel incredibly morbid even saying this, but maybe it would be a good idea to have some reserve comics piled up for unforeseen circumstances such as these, or to take a confidant under your arm who could update the site with fan-submitted strips. I don't know how well a vault of stored comics would work for HijiNKS ENSUE since you derive most of your material from current events, but you're a clever guy, I'm sure that you could find some timeless "Josh is gay" or "Eli is a sleepy Mexican" jokes.
Again, I feel very morbid for even saying that at a time like this, but I'm just trying to make a "big-picture" suggestion for a time when you're not in crisis. My condolences to you and your wife. I shall take two shots of vodka every regular update day and re-read "Bacon Arm" until you return in an effort to emulate that irreplaceable "New Comic Feeling." I urge all Fancy Bastards to do the same.
Also I just reread some of the first comics (to sate my HE lust) and man, I've got to tell you, I'm really impressed with you art work improvements, The first strips looked good, but you're new ones are fantastic. Your artistic style has really come a long way and is very distinctive and kickass now.
Fancy Bastards take care of their own. Check it out: http://hijinksensue.com/2008/05/07/guest-comic-ju…
