The Bravest Little Hobbit Of Them All
I know it’s just a rumor, but do you think Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) would make a good Bilbo Baggins? He already has all that experience being tootled by a gay wizard, which is a definite plus. Personally I think he’s at least 2 feet too tall for the role.
If not Radcliffe, then who would you cast? Do you have high hopes for The Hobbit movies?

I refuse to see the movie unless Leonard Nemoy's "Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" is on the soundtrack.

I would hate to see the humping that a boner couldn't withstand.

Paul Giamatti. Need I say more?

I've understood that "receiving" a humpin' as that of the penetratee, not the penetrator. Mr. Radcliffe would have a torn rectum, not a shattered penis. And I believe, really, that the compulsive attention to Mr. Radcliffe, by orgiastic fans, would see him victim to their instinct to hump upon, not fall prone to be humped.

Dude, that head just ejaculated, belonging to that nail!

Unless of course he was beset by an overwhelming number of female fans

Aww.. I was hoping they would use Ian Holmes and whatever technique they used for the flashback scene from Lord of the Rings to make him look young. Daniel Radcliffe is a little to 'Frodo' for me

Daniel Radcliffe is a little to 'Frodo' for me… but I'm sure whatever delToro does will impress.

My instinct is to say no, but I realize that my opinion of Daniel Radcliffe is basically the same as my pre-LOTR opinion of Elijah Wood. So my instincts are clearly not well attuned for Hobbit casting.

I think there was talk a while back of casting James McAvoy. He seemed, to me anyway, "hobbit-y" without being too much of a Frodo lookalike.

I already decided I won't see it because of the whole "We tried to steal money from Peter Jackson and vow to never allow him to work with us again" thing, I wouldn't be seeing it. Peter Jackson made the originals the triumph they were, and I refuse to see a movie directed by anyone else.
I especially won't see it if it's filled with actors that were only hired to make people who wouldn't see the movie go see the movie. "Matthew McConaughey playing Gandalf? Well, I wasn't going to go see it, but now I feel like it'll be my kind of movie. That guy is always drunk and partying!"

You know, Ian McKellen was approached to play Dumbledore at one point. I'm paraphrasing, but he basically said, "I'm playing one iconic wizard. I don't think I could play another one."
I think that's how I feel about Radcliffe. That being said, I could maybe see Rupert Grint (Ron) playing Bilbo. Is it just me?

Wasn't Martin Freeman up for the role years ago? I still think he would have done it well, based on his performance as Arthur Dent, although I guess he'd be essentially playing the same character.
And yeah, Rupert Grint makes sense, but, you know, see above paragraph. Bilbo is really Arthur Dent meets Ron Weasley, when I think about it.

LOL. Nice comic.
I think Edward James Olmos would be the perfect Bilbo.

This is really weird because Daniel Radcliffe came up in conversation with a good friend of mine yesterday and we were discussing whether he was destine for type cast obscurity already based on being totally identified as Harry Potter by like 90% of the world. She felt the need to show me the pictures of him nude….apparently he was in some play called Equus and posed for some full frontal with a horse for promotional posters. I'm convinced he did that to shock people and convince them he's not simply a boy wizard. Danger this link is NSFW if you don't want to see Harry Potter's "wand" don't click it. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www...

Radcliffe could work but I think he's too "Frodo". My vote goes to Anton Yelchin, he's got the curls already and he's a great actor.

I can totally see James McAvoy as Bilbo – despite the film not being that great he was lovely as Mr Tumnus in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Although having just IMDB'd Anton Yelchin he's got a great face for it too. Bilbo in the Hobbit seemed to be quite a mischievous character. Rupert Grint could probably do it, but he's kinda big and beefy. I don't think it would be a particularly good role for Radcliffe, and I'm not sure he would be the right person for it.

Why is nobody suggesting Warwick Davis??!?!?! That dude stayed surprisingly busy after willow… He's been in all the Harry Potter movies, plus he's also been in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Being serious for a second, isn't he a bit old now?
July 23rd, 2009 at 10:04 pm
How could he be a "bit old"? Hobbits are considered young well past their 30s and 40s….so would we if we lived to be 150+.
July 25th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
Um… If you'd ever seen or read Equus, you'd understand the pictures.
July 25th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
"How could he be a bit old?" Why, by not being a young man as is warranted by the story, that's how.
July 26th, 2009 at 4:12 am
The pictures are promotional and he's a big star so I'm sure nobody put a gun to his head and made him pose fully nude nor was it necessary to see his penis to get the point across which is why it makes sense that he probably had other motivation than just promoting a play he was in. It also has been done before by other actors who were in danger of being typecast.

I think the point was, he's nude in the play, so it's not just a publicity stunt.

Women are nude in playboy but you don't see any of their privates on the cover.
