Post Questions, Topics and Links for Podcast #48
The HE Studio iMac is in the shop so there won’t be a live stream. Sorry, but my little Macbook Pro can’t handle garage band and UStream at the same time. We’ll be recording Thursday Night (03-12-09) at 7:30 central, so have your questions in before then. I’ll try to get the audio posted as soon as possible.

In addition to right here on HijiNKS Ensue, you can pick up the HijiNKS Ensue Podcast via RSS, iTunes and The Podcast Archive Page. New casts are usually uploaded a few days after the live stream. You can also check out the Vid-cast archive on Ustream.

I was walking around campus with a cooler, and people kept making jokes about this. Ah, Academia!
Just so you have a gore story for your podcast

Is this why the stream kept dying last time?

1) For Josh: do gay dudes get turned on by their own bodies? And do gay dudes really hate lesbians?
2) What's the deal with non-blind people playing blind people? Emily Watson in Red Dragon, Eliza Dushku in this week's Dollhouse. Can't they get some real blind people?

Favorite cover song done by a band.
Mine is Land of Confusion by Disturbed

There is alot of boardgames based o a movie franchise (ie starwars risk, lord of the rings monopoly etc)
what would be the most awesome movie-boardgame cross over?

SECOND: Which Photoshop filter would you apply to real life?

I apologize if this has been asked and/or answered before, but I'm newish and curious: How did you all (Josh, Eli, Joel, Denise) meet one another? You obviously are all very close, but there seem to be some things you don't know about each other (e.g., several weeks ago when Denise hadn't heard the story of how Josh proposed to his wife). So I'm just wondering how this crazy team got together.

What do you guys think of the new iPod Shuffle?
March 12th, 2009 at 9:38 am
Joel, knowing that you enjoy the X-Men and Star Trek, have you ever heard of this crossover?
So amazing and so horrible.
http://www.amazon.com/Planet-X-Star-Trek-Generati...
My question to you guys is, what crossover would you want to see, or be terrified to see made?

As a follow-up from last week, the official definition of saddlebacking from Michael Savage.
http://saddlebacking.com/
Josh, is the Bear Subculture a strictly gay thing? Also, how would you classify your fellow podcasters if they were gay/men?

You have to be gay to be turned on by your own body?
March 12th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
Surely it has to be Desolation Row by My Chemical Romance. Not.

Denise is a powertop.

Don't forget hearing peeps who play the deaf (Stacy Edwards In the Company of Men, Patty Duke in The Miracle Worker). Are there any deaf actors beside Marlee Matlin?
March 12th, 2009 at 5:13 pm
Argh. How JOEL proposed to his wife, not Josh. English is my first language, I swear — I've just come down with a case of the stupid. :p
March 12th, 2009 at 8:06 pm
What event in geek culture would you go back in time to experience if given the chance?
March 12th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
Dram, I'd assume that Josh would be in particular turned on by himself. Bear pride, and all.
March 12th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
They'll probably skip this BECAUSE it has been asked before, so I will try and help you, as you are teh newbs
.
Apparently Joel and Josh were friends when Joel would hang out at but not attend UTD. Then Joel met Eli through Josh, and then Josh moved away and Joel and Eli found out they were good friends even without Josh. Then Josh came back, and I think Joel met Denise at a party where there was pizza and American Gladiators talk. This is the knowledge of the Fab 4 that I have accrued listening to all the podcasts.
And Josh is the gay.
March 12th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
I actually heard about this on I think, Conan O Brien, when he had Patrick Stewart on and he was talking about how he'd have to play two roles if they ever did a Star Trek/Xmen crossover based on the comic, which he was aware of. He mentioned that he was on the cover twice.
March 12th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
Speaking of MCR, the main guy (whose name I sadly do know as Gerard Way) was part of a cover version of Under Pressure with I think The Used.
March 12th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
What will you do when the Male Sack is out of juice? I'm surprised it has lasted this long without too many repeat questions.
March 12th, 2009 at 3:13 pm
I'm hardly a cult movie junkie but I do have a few favorites that are still rather cultish and obscure.
One is Free Enterprise, an excellent geek romantic comedy.
<a href=”http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0141105/” target=”_blank”>http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0141105/
And the other on is The Mating Habits of the Earthbound Human
<a href=”http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165874/” target=”_blank”>http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165874/
I guess my question for the crew is have you seen either one and do you have any obscure cult favorites or cult geek movies that you would recommend?
March 12th, 2009 at 3:34 pm
I watched Demolition Man for the first time in years and forgot that its actually pretty funny. Something jumped out as brand new to me – when Stalone and Sandra Bullock are about to use the sexmotron, she hands him a towel with a matronly "Here you go." I was too young to recognize that she was giving him a jizz-rag and that it was a superbly subtle joke.
Can you think of some other movies/shows that had jokes you simply could not understand when you were 10 but were actually hilarious?
March 12th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
Um… Beleriand and Squornshellous Alpha.
March 12th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
There was a comic crossover with the characters from the original Star Trek series (but the 90s X-team). Two reactions to "Dr McCoy?" in one panel is one of the best nerdgasm moments ever.
March 12th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
Don't forget Latveria, land of DOOM!
And Apokolips/New Genesis.
March 13th, 2009 at 1:25 am
Funnily, I just listened to all of the podcasts starting from the beginning, and I honestly can't remember if this has been asked before, but here goes:
If you each could pick one person to guest star on the podcast, who would it be, and what would you want to talk to them about (i.e. What's the first question you would ask)?
March 13th, 2009 at 12:46 pm
Thanks for answering that for me.
And yes, I realize Josh is the gay. It was a typo, hence my adding a comment clarifying below. Josh and Joel are very similar names, and I was tired.
March 13th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
This is my first time commenting, I hope I do this right.
Can the folks at Hijinks Ensue share their version of The Aristocrats joke?
If you don't know what that is, you can imdb "The Aristocrats" a documentary by Penn Gilette and a hundred comedians about the dirtiest joke in history. It might be best to just combine all of your ideas into one big long telling, I can't imagine how you'd separate everybody's ideas.
March 13th, 2009 at 11:43 pm
Q. for Josh, What could a gay man say to another man to figure out if they were gay and a strait man would be none the wiser?
I have to say I stole this from Dan Savage. It would be good for picking up guys at a biker bar without being getting your ass beat, no pun intended.
