I know you guys aren't big Stargate fans, but I'd like your input on this.
Knowing you're not huge fans, what are your views on the original series lasting 10 years, the spin-off Atlantis having lasted almost 5 years, and the upcoming series: Universe? I'd especially like to hear your comparisons to shows like Firefly (which was killed off much too quickly.)

What do you think of Browncoats Tweeting as the crew of the Firefly? to me (an insane Browncoat) it's cute

Ive enjoyed both of the Stargates, but they suffered from having small budgets, way too many "running through the woods for forty minutes" episodes.
Universe sounds like its going to be Dawson's Creek in space.

Hey Eli, this one's for you-
I just finished Hell's Highway. (it was awesome) I rented it a while back from Gamefly, which, if you don't know, is like Netflix for games. I was wondering- How does a system like that effect the developers? What kind of money do you get from the rental service? do you get residuals for every rental? And, since I later decided to buy the copy of the game, what happens then?
I just wanted to know if the system was total bullshit, and screwed over the developers, akin to gamestop.

I need a long preface for this question (sorry):
I just watched “Eagle Eye” with Shia LeBeouf and Michelle Monaghan this week.
It had the most ridiculous story line ever: a secret AI created by the government to monitor threats to the US goes rogue and thinks it has to kill the president. It can maniupulate electronics and coerces LeBeouf and Monaghan into helping it. LeBeouf plays a twenty something guy doing minimum wage jobs and Monaghan is a thirty something single mom.
The story requires you suspend ALL disbelief and gets sillier as time goes on.
I was waiting for it to jump the final shark, at the very end LeBeouf visits Monaghan after the ordeal (and surviving multiple gunshot wounds) and leans in to kiss her. He quickly pecks her on the cheek instead of on the mouth, showing friendship instead of love. This in my mind saved it from being a complete and total disaster since they had no romantic tension during the entire film.
Can you think of any other movies that saved themselves from complete and total idiocy near the end?

This question has a long preface (sorry):
I watched Eagle Eye this week with Shia LeBeouf (Jerry Shaw) and Michelle Monaghan (Rachel Holloman). Jerry Shaw is a twenty something guy working minimum wage jobs to get by and Rachel is a thirty something single mom.
The storyline is completely ridiculous and requires you suspend all disbelief as a government created AI (looking like a mix between GLADOS from Portal and HAL from 2001) goes rogue and thinks it has to kill the president. It can monitor and manipulate all electronics and uses this to recruit Jerry and Rachel to help it. The story get more and more convoluted as time goes on as we learn the true extent of the AI's plan.
I was waiting for this movie to finish itself off in the final scene: Jerry visits Rachel at her home after the climax (having survived multiple gunshot wounds) and leans in to kiss her. But right at the last moment he pecks her on the cheek instead of the lips, showing romance instead of love.
In my mind this saved the movie from being completely stupid as their was no romantic tension between the two at all during the movie.
My question is, can you think of any other movies that saved themselves from complete idiocy near the end?

On the radio this morning they were talking about the best ending lines in movies. They contended that Caddyshack was the best with "Hey everyone! We're going to get get laid!". I contend that Bladerunner has the best with "It's too bad she won't live; but then again, who does?". What are your thoughts?

What member of what band would you replace with what 80s cartoon character?
January 30th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
This question's for everyone:
What item would you *least* want to have inserted into which of your orifices (e.g., "horse chestnut in your urethra")? Also, why (e.g., "Obviously cuz it would be frakkin' painful, you dillweed")?
P.S. My wife says I am "so gay". I don't know how she figures that. Then again, she also says that she would pay good money to watch Josh give me a good rogering, so maybe it's wishful thinking.

So many actors and celebrities are getting facebooks, twitters, and blogs: I recently started reading the blog of the guy who plays Hurley on LOST. Of the ones you follow, who is the coolest and most approachable, and which is the most doucheist?

Heard y'all talking about the fan-play written about you… do any of you have any fannish creative outlets out there in the intarwebs (besides this comic, of course)? Fanfic, fanvids, comment!porn, etc. What do you think of the more controversial subsections, like adult fanfic and RealPeopleFiction?
January 30th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
Seconded, also link(s)? I've never heard of this

not to take this question from the podcast but it's a very one sided view from my point of view….however a lot of fact.
pretty much the answer is YES this hurts devs in a big ways. devs who work their asses off do not get anything from rentals. money is made when units are sold. now these places can buy units but that's it. there is no money made for rentals that goes to the devs.
i do not believe in these types of places personally. that in itself is a longer reply why i do not like these places so much.
going into this will draw heated discussions (i know cause i've had them before) about how games are expensive and why should they cost so much…which the other side is…well making games isn't cheap and rentals will cut into those costs.
but yes it does hurt devs in the end

Wow, have to dust off this account first…
This one's for Josh, I've been watching Project Runway (the Australian series) and I just wondered if you hated Kristy Hinze's poor attempt at hosting as much as I do? Anyway, if you could replace her with anyone in order to make the challenges as brutal as possible who'd it be? You can't say Dethklok because I'm saying them now…

To the videogame-type people: what's your opinion on the Sci-Fi MMO-FPS Tabula Rasa dying in late February?

Um, 90's cartoons. Batman! Guys, come on.
