Post Questions, Topics and Links for Podcast #29
We’ll be broadcasting live via Ustream.TVm Friday Night (Sept 19th) starting between 8 and 9pm central. Regrettably, Denise will be absent.
TIME CHANGE!!! Saturday (Sept 20th) starting between 1 and 2pm central.
NEW HE PODCAST FORMAT!!!
Most of your faithful listeners know that over time the podcasts have gotten longer and longer. With more questions, more topics and more hosts the typical HE Castcast is topping out around 3.5 hours. While it fun for us and for many of you, the overwhelming majority of feedback I’m getting is that people simply don’t have 3 hours to devote to a weekly podcast. This is also evidenced by the sharp decline in listeners that started with the first 3 hour cast.
Research shows 1.5 hours to be the magic number, so that’s what we’re doing. We’ll only be doing 5 or so topics for the first half of this show. This will give us time to go off on tangents, etc and still keep this segment at about 45 min.
We’ll also be hand selecting questions from the ones you submit and answering 5-10 of them (again, trying to keep it at 45 min or so). We will be picking the questions that are:
- The most thought provoking
- The most unique
- The Geekiest
- The most likely to elicit a good discussion
- or allow us to go off on the funniest tangents
Questions that we don’t answer live might be answered in the Post Show. I really enjoyed answering ALL the reader questions but it’s just not possible without constantly elongating the Cast. The more listeners the show has the more likely it is to continue, so this is a good change for all.
See you there for the live chat.

Who's your favorite genocidal dictator (alive or dead).
September 18th, 2008 at 3:10 am
Can I call dibs on being The Producer, so I can make neck-slashy gestures at you guys when you're talking too much? I can buy my own big clock too.
September 18th, 2008 at 7:29 am
Which [cartoon/comic/movie/celebrity] sidekick or henchman would you rather be?
Question is pre-streched & broadened, so you don't have to!®
September 19th, 2008 at 7:46 am
My wife and I used to turn on Comedy Central Friday nights. Since I began watching the live podcast this has ceased. I feel that this is a change for the better.
What, if anything, have you given up/postponed for this podcast and was it worth it?
September 18th, 2008 at 9:24 am
Sorry, the "carrying a big clock" job has already been given to Flava Flav.
September 19th, 2008 at 9:42 am
Well, this is just a general comment.
As much as I love the 3 hour podcasts, I agree with the decision to shorten them. Ever since they started going over 2.5 hours I just haven't had the time to listen to them in their entirety, and splitting it into 30 minute segments takes all the fun out of it. So thanks for working to make it shorter!

Have you guys watched the newest "game show" (read: "reason for Americans to feel embarrassed") called Hole in the Wall? I just watched an episode and Josh was in it, only he was 100+ lbs heavier. So what I want to know is, how did Josh gain all that weight? Is he going to keep it on for a while? Does it help him feel more bear-like?
http://fox.com/fod/play.php?sh=holeinthewall (Tonight's episode isn't online yet, but hopefully it will be by tomorrow.)

You need the "Wrap it up" box from Chapelle's show.
September 18th, 2008 at 10:14 am
Oh lookie here, a non-movie related question. While I should be doing my mid term paper for English, I'm going to ask you this question and aim for unique and or thought provoking.
If you could choose/had to choose, which letter of the English alphabet would you be and why?
September 18th, 2008 at 10:18 am
What did you guys think of Chapelle's abrupt departure from his television show so that he could "keep it real"?
September 18th, 2008 at 10:52 am
what the hell?! maybe I am the only one, but I could go even longer than 3.5 hours… I can't imagine shortening it. Please won't someone think of the children?!
September 18th, 2008 at 11:12 am
As much as I love having more Hijinks in my ear holes, I think the abbreviated format will enable more FBs to participate in the castcast, and probably make it more likely to have a full crew each week (easier to coordinate schedules for 2 hours than 4+ hours). As an added bonus, the vault instantly becomes more appealing by having more content-filled post-shows.
September 18th, 2008 at 11:20 am
Okay, if you fail to reach more listeners with the shortened format, will you return to the old (current) 'hulk-smash of awesome' format?
AND, in follow up to my last question, cast Frisky Dingo…
The first question is more important, if you choose to answer the second though, have fun with Kill Face…
September 19th, 2008 at 11:32 am
Past examples would be cell phones and the internet. Both were imagined in one form or another before someone managed to build them, and its hard to dispute that they have changed the world.
so, the question is: What sci-fi tech would most change the world if it were to become real, and how would it change it. Feel free to pick your favorites.
Bonus difficulty: No teleporting josh's underwear.
September 19th, 2008 at 11:34 am
+5 points for the reference. I am so building one of those tonight.

What do you guythink of british sketch shows/sitcoms and how do they compare to american ones
September 19th, 2008 at 1:08 am
As you might expect, this concept was started by the Japanese. "Brain Wall" as they called it, was a segment on one of their game shows. It is now taking the world by storm, with game shows in Argentina, Australia, Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and now the United States. But the US announcers are horribly annoying.
September 19th, 2008 at 1:42 am
Question: Why do you think you would be a good fit for our organization, and what are your strengths.
September 19th, 2008 at 1:42 am
Good question, I've been meaning to ask if Josh or any of them had any ones in particular they liked. I'm in love with Little Britain and Black Books.
September 19th, 2008 at 2:22 am
what's your favorite non-DC/Marvel comic? it could be one that you're currently reading, or your favorite ever. i only ask this b'c your discussion on It's always Sunny in Philadelphia made me watch it, and i love the show.
September 19th, 2008 at 3:16 am
errr, im thinking, i think i would be a "The Incredibles" evil henchman, but the one that controls all buttons and missiles and sweet sweet electronic geekness, and that does all the flah for those freaky-cool destroyed beta-killed superhero scene
or be a minion of the monarch (Venture Bros.) or the villain from SD:Get a Clue
Or maybe be the next buster! Wait, do mythbusters count as celebrities?
September 19th, 2008 at 3:19 am
yeah, im from ARG and i like that show , but i would be more interested on it with 2 things:
1.Change the announcer (Google Marley Argentina and youll see why)
2.Make Them pass making the figure, not just laying down on the floor!
PD: Post the episode with JOSH in a REPLY!!!
September 19th, 2008 at 3:22 am
I would be a d (lowercase) because i like that letter and i looks like me, with a little tummy!
PD: its random futurama quote time!
Morbo-Morbo forgot how do you say that letter that looks like a man with a hat
Morbo's wife-Its a T, you say it T
Morbo-Hi there little buddy! I WILL DESTROY YOU
September 19th, 2008 at 3:25 am
Yes, you are the only one, at least the only 1 that complaints .
I love the changes!
September 19th, 2008 at 3:28 am

Do you guys have any rules that mark a quality geek show or movie? For example:-
The Bechdel Rule
1. At least two female characters, who …
2. talk to each other about…
3. something besides a man.
The Morales Rule (from Natalie Morales, ABC Family's The Middleman)
1. Nobody calls anybody Papi.
2. No dancing to salsa music.
3. No gratuitous Spanish.
The Deggans Rule
(from Eric Deggans, The St. Petersburg Times)
1. At least two nonwhite characters in the main cast …
2. in a show that's not about race.
September 19th, 2008 at 3:55 am
I thought he left because white people were laughing at his silly negro antics instead of with him.
Also, Flight of the Conchords is gone after this upcoming season.
September 19th, 2008 at 5:10 am
I can't post the link at work (stupid restricted access…) but I'll try to find it and post it when I get home.
September 19th, 2008 at 5:12 am
What bugs me about the American version of Hole in the Wall is that the wall is the whole show. The Japanese episodes that I've seen with this wall event had other events as well, which was far more entertaining. The American show is like an alpha version of a real show.
September 19th, 2008 at 10:08 am
Sweet, the cast was rescheduled so this link isn't too late! Just go to http://fox.com/fod/play.php?sh=holeinthewall and then find the video called "Burger Boys vs. Chicken Wings Chicks".
September 20th, 2008 at 10:21 am
bit of a late entry, but here goes: I know Top Gear was mentioned on previous casts so I'm wondering what are your dream cars?

THE SHOW STARTS IN AN HOUR OR SO.
September 20th, 2008 at 11:08 am
I appreciate the sentiment, but if the audience continues to dwindle we'll have to stop the cast alltogether. Its better that we make it friendly to a wide range of listeners and most cant stomach the 3 hours casts.
September 20th, 2008 at 11:11 am
seems like we've answered this one a couple of times. Josh is the only one with any real familiarity of modern british comedy.
