Post Questions and Topics for Podcast #20
I’m expecting the standard crew. Feel free to post not only questions, but links and topics for potential discussion.
I want to cut down on the part of the podcast where I read the title of a story and we all go, “That sucks.”
We’ll most likely be recording Friday night, and broadcasting live from Ustream.
UPDATE: WE WILL BE RECORDING AND BROADCASTING MONDAY NIGHT!!!

Well, I've realized that my questions either lead nowhere or to somewhere completely unrelated, so I think from now on I should just post completely random questions.
Let's give it a try…
Who would win in a fight? Chuck Norris or Batman?
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
First off… Norris no question. Batman is just a man, Norris is a demi-god, of kick-assery.
Discussion Topic: Pro's and Con's of Social Networking Sites.

I don't know whether this is full of geeky awesome, or a sign of the end times:

You made a reference to Bowie (via Flight of the Concoreds) on the previous podcast; do any of you enjoy his music? Any favourite Bowie eras and/or albums?
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Joel, I know you're not one for the paper media, but have you read a book called World War Z? If not, you need to. It's written by Max Brooks (who wrote the Zombie Survival Guide) and is a collection of first-hand accounts from survivors of the zombie apocalypse.
BTW, it's pronounced Roo-roh-nee Q.

The peanut is neither a pea nor a nut. Discuss.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
er, by "recording on Friday" do you mean the 4th? coz i was planning on watching fireworks… or at least setting something on fire.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Name, species, breed, and fate of your favorite childhood pet.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
I hope those past times are related to the celebration of Independence Day. Or it would be neat if you just set aside every first Friday of the month for pyrotechnics and immolation… depending on the object of fiery consumption.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Oh right. Good point. Saturday Night is Dethklok. Maybe we should record Sunday Night so we can talk about the 4th and the concert?
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
As Star Trek fans did you enjoy Enterprise, or am I the only one on the planet that doesn't have a hate on for Scott Bakula?
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
That is fraktastic. i just had a geekgasm
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
that's a great book. i really enjoyed it!
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Sometimes I get hella depressed thinking about the amount of time I spend geeking out over Battlestar when there is suffering I could alleviate. What kind of man spends an hour talking about the final five over gravy fries when there are homeless children eating out of dumpsters in his city?
Am I alone in this, or is there a geek-man’s burden that overtakes your thoughts late at night? What do you do when those grim thoughts come a-callin’?
Because my question strikes me as too serious: “Heh. He said eating out.”
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
What is one show that is over that you would like to see come to the big screen (Arrested Development doesn't count since it's all but officially confirmed, also Firefly doesn't count since we already have Serenity)?
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
If Cloverfield spanked it vigorously enough, would his man-sauce wash NYC off the map? Also, is Cloverfield scared of the possibility of Eli's grandmother coming back as a gamma-irradiated "super beast", and kicking his ass? (Assuming she isn't too sleepy) I imagine she would have some sort of nacho cheese cannon and enchilada nunchucks…
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Joel, you truely are self-employed. We forget about things like holidays, because, well every day is a day in which we can work or slack off according to our whims.
Welcome to the pack!
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Boxers, briefs, boxer briefs, panties, commando, or fruit roll-ups?
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Scott Bakula did Quantum Leap, so you can't hate him. Enterprise really just made me feel sorry for him. You know… Like Tony Danza.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Second

Can we get Eli's soundboard as downloadable MP3's? I'd love to have the fail noise as my ringtone when i get a text message on my phone and the show ending theme as the tone when i get a call.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Out of all the movies and books you have seen or read, what is you favorite battle of all time?
My favorite is the fifth battle against Melkor in the Silmarillion, Nirnaeth Arnoediad, mainly because it involves the bodies of the elves and men who challenged him getting piled all together, forming a small hill…and there is an army of balrogs.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
I'd wait until at least the second generation of the hardware to see if it was worth it. Then I'd figure out if the cost was worth it. 5k sounds like a good upper end, though.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
So I have another noteworthy piece of Intarweb, as it pertains to historical geek cinema:

Thoughts?

Doesn't Google keep five years of search history? If what I was told is correct, then really, this is nothing new that they keep that information around. I do think its sheisty that this information is being passed on. It's sort of like Viacom watching me poop.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
It's not that I laugh in the wake of the destruction the armies of darkness cause
Not even a little?
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
last minute question/comment:
Just play some DethKlok!
That is all.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
…Maybe a little…
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am

February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
do you see video games going political?
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
You and the chat room need to have a….chat, sometime. We've tried to compile a comprehensive list of where the sounds are from, since Eli and Joel have said that it'd be super illegal to post it to the public.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
WHY the HECK!, can we live in an era where we can talk about going back to the moon like we are actually going to do it, but I STILL cant get a good clown killing game! What FREAKING GOOD! are all these hyper-realistic murder simulators if you cant blow away a few measly clowns with them.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
I'm so happy I could cry. Please please GOD hook me up to the matrix already.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Let's burn someone in effigy.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
I have only ever owned one pair of boxer briefs:
I was thirteen years old, heading into high school and big-boyhood, but what to wear? Everyone wanted to be black, and apparently black people didn't wear belts, so underwear design and print was an important concern.
An older friend had bequeathed me sage advice, alerting me to the popularity of a certain nonsensical cartoon character at the aforementioned school.
With only this and a terrifying perspective of the importance of my undergarments, I hobbled into a Walmart, every emotion showing plainly in every facet of my demeanor. I crept to the revolving rack of not-so-private vestments, and there he was, glaring at me as if he wanted to beat me up himself: the cartoon character.
I clenched my jaw shut to keep from announcing his presence to myself: names had power, and little would be needed to obliterate my pubescent existence. I spun the rack and shivered, glancing only peripherally at the others on display.
I knew what I had to do.
It wasn't easy: with a soundless shriek accompanied by the furious screech of the rack, I spun the pair back towards myself with a reckless and suicidal feeling. Snatching the evil thing out of my line of sight, I clutched it tightly in my fist, daring it to attempt escape. Furiously I stalked to the cart, slamming him face down behind its plastic bars. I was a winner, and I was a man.
They were really comfortable, and gave great support without being too tight. I actually still have them, (along with, perhaps more notably, a shirt I've had since seventh grade that still fits) but I don't wear them much anymore because some unknown mixture of exercise and sitting causes them to generate a truly horrifying wedgie. Super comfy otherwise though, so yeah, boxer briefs.

Is Denise good at FPS games? I can't imagine anything more horrifying than being telefragged by her adorable Inuit brain.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
It the Matrix compatible with BlueTooth, once you have this, there's none of that messy "jacking in" business.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Who would win in a bro-down/dance off between Cloverfield and Godzilla? Bonus points for detailing the resulting collateral damage done to NYC.
Discussion topic:
When you go off to rent a movie, do you consider downloading it instead (via xbox live, Apple TV, etc)? Do you subscribe to mail in movie rentals? Have you ever downloaded an HD movie rental?
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Awwww man, not Unnumbered Tears! Geez, now I am wondering about your choice of namesake!
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
I just hope it's not made by Apple, so everyone won't be forced to tear off their skin every 3 months.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Could be worse if it was made by Windows; I sure as fuck don't want a Blue Screen of Death tattoo, nor do I want adware and spyware in my body.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
What famous gay person would you compare Josh to? Elton John? Andy Dick?
Same question, but applied to the other three. Eli as Cheech Marin? Denise as someone from Estonia? Joel as Felix to Eli's Oscar?
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
In all seriousness, and for discussion, how much would you realistically be willing to pay to have such awesome? I'd probably sign up if it was 5 grand.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Would it be too much srs bsns to bring up Judge Stanton's ruling that Youtube must turn over its users' histories to Viacom? http://tech.slashdot.org/tech/08/07/03/121221.sht... – I find it creepy that Viacom needs everybody's logins and IP addresses, and also creepy that Youtube has potentially kept enough personally identifiable information on its users for long enough that there is something for them to actually hand over to Viacom. Any thoughts?
February 5th, 2009 at 11:36 am
It's not that I laugh in the wake of the destruction the armies of darkness cause, the events that take place during Unnumbered Tears are just so fucking awsome!
