My last chance to procrastinate in 2007

The plan was to have today’s comic up by…say…nowish. But, get this. Eli is having a new years party. Damn him. Damn him back to Mexico 1000 times over. I know new years parties typically happen at night, plus I’ve had the last few days off, so my excuse doesn’t really hold water. Oh well. That’s the best I could do.  The comic ended up being really complicated so it’s going up on New Years Day, the year of our Blorg  Two thousand and eight.

Once all these stupid holidays are over HE will resume it’s normal Monday and Thursday schedule.

Here’s a preview:

Hint: That’s not Joel or Eli.

Important decision time

If you’ve been reading HE for a while you no doubt have noticed that I play with the character designs pretty often. The truth is, I am still trying to settle on a style that I am happy with. The comic is young, and these are care free, experimental times so I’ve just been having fun with it. Well, that’s over. It’s time to grow up, get serious and start drawing my silly cartoons consistently like a man.

The top row in the image below shows the direction I am leaning towards. The bottom row are pretty realistic caricatures of me, Josh, and Eli. I drew them from photos then used them as templates to “cartoonify” the characters.

You will probably at least see the new style (top row) on the next comic. Whether or not it sticks will depend on how pleased I am with it and certainly on your feedback. This is a pretty important decision for me so any thoughts good or bad would be appreciated.

UPDATE:
Since I’m getting some confusing feedback, I assume I wasn’t clear. The TOP row is what I plan to use. The bottom row is the more realistic caricatures that I used for reference. I just posted those so you could see where I was coming from. The top row is close to the style I have been using lately, but more defined. Does that change anyone’s suggestions?

Also, Fake Steve linked to the last comic (which was about him). Cool guy. You should read his real fake blog.
“Dude, I invented the friggin iPhone. Have you heard of it?”

New fun stuff

I added some new features to the site with some great WordPress plugins. Now when you make a comment on a post you can subscribe to that post’s comments via email. Let me know if it doesn’t work.

I also added a contact form to the contact page.

My very good friend Daniel is a father today. To clarify, he was not one yesterday. I would be a super way to congratulate him if you checked out his photoblog, Arranging Light, and bought a print of one of his awesome photos. There are photos of trees and skies and animals and boobs. I swear they will make you happy.

Thursday’s comic will almost certainly be posted on Friday due to H.I.B.L. (Holiday Induced Bastard Laziness). It’s a serious affliction that, if not treated, can lead to C.L.A.S. (Chronic Laziness Asstard Syndrome).

Some remix stragglers and the Dinosaur Comics blank

I wasn’t planning on keeping up with the remixes for a while since it was actually taking me about an hour to collect, optimize and post the entries. I really appreciate everyone that participated but I think it’s something more suited for a forum (which I may have someday).

Some super cool dudes submitted remixes for the last few comics and, like a douche, I never got around to posting them. Here they go:

2 OLPC remixes from Honest Ape

Doug Morris remix from Osoman

Google Android remix from Icarus

I showed this one to Eli and Josh and lunch one day and it broke them.

Also, to completely negate what I just said, here is the remix blank for the “Dinosaur Comics” comic. I have a feeling that some of you could do some entirely inappropriate stuff with this one. Send ’em to comics(at)hijinksensue(dot)com.

Trying something new

I noticed a lot of other comics are participating in this comic listing directories/voting sites. I never really thought of using them since I manage all my bookmarks using an RSS reader. Turns out a considerable number of people like their webcomics to be competitive and quantifiable.

So if you use any of these comic directories, feel free to vote for HE or add it to your favorites.
