Jonathan Coulton: Zombie Fighting Troubadour pt. 1

(Written Wednesday 9/19/07, which was yesterday)

The Jonathan Coulton show is tonight. This means I don’t have tonight to finish tomorrow’s comic. Well, guess what, you nay-sayers (always nay-saying)? I finished it last night! Lube that up and stick it in your corn-tube. This is unusual for me (the finishing early, not the tube part), since I generally live by a strict code of professional procrastination. If I told the you the exact steps I take to make a comic and what order I did them in, you could easily spot the trends in declining quality as I approach the tasks I complete after 1:00am. (hint: It’s the drawing and the writing).

Imagine that last sentence being read by Stephen Hawking. In that scenario “quality of comic”= entropy and 1:00am = the speed of light. I think that makes me the singularity and my couch the event horizon. The point is, I collapse in on myself and then someone has to reboot the universe (hold power for 5 seconds then press F8 to enter safe mode).

Somehow this turned into an XKCD comic.

Regardless, I’m psyched for the JoCo show and hope to see you there. Special thanks to all of you who have been Stumbling HijiNKS Ensue!

    Perfect again, you are so sweet.

    “Code Monkey” has gotten to be my “our song” with my bf. Interestingly nerdy relationship, but it works.

    Hope you loved the show, we want to hear all about it.

    @Jeff
    Sweet like bear meat?

    @Susan
    The show was great. I will post more about it in the blog this week. JC signed a copy of this comic for me. JC’s songs are the soundtrack to a nerdy relationship.

    Great comic. Found out about it through JoCo, and now you’ve got one more loyal subscriber.

    Please tell Josh to rid himself of his zombie tendencies before he starts work. My brains have enough problems without fear of beaten eaten by zombies!

    I saw Jonathan Coulton at PAX this year. He was one of the best performances out of both Friday’s and Saturday’s shows. I wanted to get his album Thing a Week 1 because it has “Baby Got Back” on it, but I ended up getting Thing a Week 4 because of “You Ruined Everything” which is the most hilarious, sad, bittersweetly uplifting song I’ve ever heard (and it was particularly relevant to me because we’re having a baby in October).

    In short, Jonathan Coulton = hawesome.

    Mmm… mushy Joel brains.

    @Rosalie
    Josh’s various vices run pretty deep, but I dont think youre his type.

    @Dean
    Congrats on the baby! I’ve got a 6 month old daughter and I could really relate to that song. He told a little story about it at the show. Basically that you completely lose your previous identity, its all torn apart and you are left in shambles…but then you get to rebuild.

    @AJ
    Reminds me of Ray Liotta in Hannibal.

    My wife considers “Skullcrusher Mountain” to be geekier than “Code Monkey”. Apparently the line “Isn’t it enough that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?” reminds her of me.

  13. Joel

    @Fritz: I hadnt heard that song until the show and the “ruined pony” line broke me.
